India Today
As the upcoming Mercedes-AMG SL roadster enters the final stages of development, AMG has decided to show off its bodyshell developed from the ground-up specifically for the upcoming convertible.
Ahead of the official debut of the new generation Mercedes-AMG SL, the company has released images and details shedding light on convertible’s underpinnings. As announced earlier, Mercedes-AMG has been tasked with the development of the all-new SL. Mercedes-AMG has developed a completely new architecture for the upcoming SL in the form of a lightweight composite aluminium chassis. Merc also wants to make it clear that not a single component is shared with previous SL generations or existing products like the Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster. The frame is an amalgamation of aluminium, steel, magnesium and fibre composites to help achieve the right balance between high rigidity and low weight. Mercedes-AMG says that compared to the previous generation SL, the torsional stiffness of the new SL’s bodyshell has gone up by 18 per cent. It also claims that the upcoming Mercedes SL has 50 per cent higher transverse rigidity and 40 per cent higher longitudinal rigidity compared to the Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster.More Related News
