Union MoS Jitendra Singh receives Lifetime Achievement Award in Medicine & Diabetes at MV Diabetes conference in Chennai.
Union Minister of State (MoS) Jitendra Singh was conferred the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award in Medicine & Diabetes’ at a conference organised by MV Diabetes here on Friday.
Dr. Singh, who serves as the MoS for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, expressed his deep honour in receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, and paid tribute to the legacy of M. Viswanathan, a pioneer of diabetology in India.
Highlighting his own journey, Dr. Singh credited his mentors for their “hand-holding”, which helped a “young man from a peripheral region” to reach the centre stage of medical academics. “I cannot repay them for all that I received from them in abundance, but have, in a modest way, tried to be the same for the students who came under my charge during my several decades as a teacher of medicine,” Dr. Singh said.
He said modern doctors must integrate technology and AI into their practice, and also spoke about the importance of the teacher-student bond. He urged the current generation to mentor others with the same dedication they received from their seniors.
Vijay Viswanathan, Head and Chief Diabetologist, MV Diabetes, said that over 1,000 participants, including doctors and healthcare professionals, researchers in diabetes care, and specialists in diabetic foot and wound management, were expected to attend the event.
