Heavy rain continues to impact Salem and Namakkal districts, with significant rainfall causing disruptions and damage.
Heavy rain lashed Salem and Namakkal districts for second consecutive day on Friday. A total of 384.6 mm rainfall was recorded in the last 24 hours that ended at 6 a.m. in the district.
The rain started on Thursday midnight in various parts of the district, especially at Edappadi, Mettur, and Salem City. In Salem city, rain poured heavily between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., and power supply was disrupted in many places in the city at midnight. Due to heavy rain at Edappadi, rainwater stagnated in and around the Edappadi tahsildar office. Banana trees were also damaged due to the rain in the Edappadi locality.
In the past 24 hours, 384.6 mm of rainfall was recorded in the district, including 88.4 mm in Edappadi, 81 mm in Sankari, 58.8 mm in Mettur, 41.3 mm in Salem, 23 mm in Gangavalli, 21 mm in Kadayampatti, 17 mm in Thalaivasal, 15.6 mm in Attur, 15.5 mm in Vazhapadi, 14 mm in Pethanaickenpalayam, 6 mm in Yercaud and 3 mm in Omalur.
Likewise, in the Namakkal district, 215.60 mm of rainfall registered in the last 24 hours, including 77 mm in Rasipuram, 44.40 mm in Tiruchengode, 28.60 mm in Senthamangalam, 19 mm in Puduchatram, 17 mm in the Collectorate, 14.60 mm in Kumarapalayam, 9 mm in Kollihills Semmedu, and 6 mm in Namakkal.
