UGC has issued guidelines for transforming higher education institutions into multidisciplinary institutions. All colleges and universities are being told to take necessary steps in this direction.
A 27-page instruction booklet has been released which contains details such as the objectives of this move, what kind of approach can be taken and the conditions for the same, what creates a multidisciplinary HEI, and other general conditions.
The booklet also mentions how the academic council and the finance commitee should be composed, how academic collaborations can be carried out between institutions for multidisciplinary education and research, information regarding HEI mergers, establishment of new education departments in the multidisciplinary HEIs, grievance redressal, and more.
