A section of road collapsed near Elmwood Park in Omaha on Tuesday afternoon, sending two vehicles into a sinkhole and prompting quick action from local bystanders.
Dramatic traffic camera footage from midtown Omaha captured the startling moment when a section of road suddenly gave way, swallowing two vehicles within seconds and leaving stunned onlookers scrambling to help.
The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon near Elmwood Park, close to the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Aksarben Village area. In the video released by the Omaha Police Department, an SUV and a pickup truck can be seen driving along a busy stretch when the asphalt collapses beneath them, creating a deep sinkhole.
Despite the frightening visuals, authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported.

In a statement, police said, “Earlier today, Omaha Police responded to 67th & Pacific St. for an accident. The roadway collapsed, and two vehicles fell into a sinkhole just east of the intersection.”
Before emergency crews could reach the scene, bystanders rushed forward. According to police, witnesses and the pickup driver worked together to pull the SUV driver from the damaged vehicle. Others stepped in to manage traffic and urged pedestrians and motorists to keep a safe distance from the unstable roadway.
