Two release dates for RRR leaves producers in a fix, reveal trade experts
India Today
SS Rajamouli announced two release dates for his upcoming film RRR starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan. This left many producers and distributors in a fix.
The Bollywood industry was taken by surprise when SS Rajamouli decided to announce two release dates for his magnum opus film, RRR. The recent announcement made by the makers of Jr NTR and Ram Charan's much-awaited film has not gone well with the makers of upcoming Bollywood films. They are now irked with director SS Rajamouli announcing the dates without consulting any of the producers.
Last week, director SS Rajamouli announced two release dates for RRR. Their statement read, "If the pandemic situation in the country gets better and all theatres open up to operate at full capacity, we are ready to release the film on 18th March 2022. Otherwise, RRR will release on 28th April 2022."

Now with RRR announcing March 18 and April 28 as release dates, the makers of Bachchan Pandey, Runway 34, Shamshera, Heropanti, Radhe Shyam, etc., are miffed. However, this is not the first time that RRR has taken over the release dates of other films. In December 2021, when RRR announced their release date as January 7, makers of Bheemla Nayak, Radhe Shyam, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Sarkaru Vaari Paata, and Acharya had to shift their dates. In the end, even RRR couldn’t release in January due to the spike in Covid.
Speaking to IndiaToday.in, an industry insider revealed, "Not many are happy with this blatant decision by SS Rajamouli. He should have considered other film releases too. His is not the only film that people are looking forward to. This is not how one should behave."
To understand the situation better, IndiaToday.in got in touch with Bollywood insiders, who analysed and gave their inputs on whether announcing two release dates is a safe practice or not.
