We’ve waited for the next-generation Tiger 1200 for quite some time now, and to quench our thirst, Triumph Motorcycle revealed the next-generation Tiger, albeit in its prototype guise. The new Triumph Tiger 1200 is a completely new model-- and not just an update-- built around the Tiger-specific version of the three-cylinder engine spawned from the new Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS. Last month, Triumph Motorcycles took the wraps off a prototype version of the upcoming Triumph Tiger Sport 660, which is essentially a brand new sports-tourer based on the hugely-popular Triumph Trident 660. At first glance, the 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 appears to be firmly focused on its off-road knack. The teaser pictures show engine protector bars and additional lights on either side, hinting that this prototype could be a spin-off rally version of its younger sibling, Tiger 900. However, the cast alloy wheels indicate this to be a road-going version. We will know more about this in the coming weeks. Triumph also says the new Tiger 1200 has lost a considerable amount of weight, which results in the Tiger becoming lighter and compact while not losing out on any power, but instead sees enhanced ergonomics for better ride & handling. It’ll be interesting to see how the Tiger 1200 fares against some other heavy-weights in the category, such as the BMW R 1250 GS, or even the 2022 Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin for that matter.
