BJP leader criticizes Mamata Banerjee for opposing Waqf Act, accuses Congress and RJD of betraying backward classes.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Thursday (April 10, 2025) lashed out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her statement that she would not allow the Waqf (Amendment) Act to be implemented in the State.
He alleged that she is misleading the people, Mr. Chugh also called out Ms. Banerjee for emerging as the “new Jinnah of India”, and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is playing the same role that the erstwhile Muslim League did before India’s Independence.
Mr. Chugh was in Patna to address the workshop of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Samman Abhiyan organised at Bihar BJP State Office.
“The Waqf Act has been implemented in the country and Mamata Banerjee is unnecessarily and absurdly misleading the people. The country functions on a federal structure, the country functions as per the Constitution and the Parliament is the highest empowered body. The Act has been passed and implemented across the country,” Mr. Chugh said while speaking to the press at the party office.
“Mamata Banerjee has emerged as the modern Jinnah of India and TMC is playing the same role that the Muslim League used to do before India’s Independence. Mohammad Ali Jinnah used to spread tension and speak lies; she is doing the same thing. The way two days back, TMC goons attacked the house of a Hindu it proves that TMC is Muslim League of modern India,” he claimed.
Mr. Chugh alleged that she is insulting the Constitution and its federal structure. “She is wearing the mask of secularism for mere vote-bank politics,“ the BJP leader added.
Asked about Rahul Gandhi also calling the Waqf Act “anti-Muslim”, Mr. Chugh said: “Rahul Gandhi is a retarded child. I want to ask him whether Pasmanda Muslims should get their rights or not? Does he want to give the Waqf money benefit collected through Zakat to the land mafia?”
