Tired of annoying WhatsApp groups? WhatsApp will soon let users exit groups silently
India Today
Currently, when you exit a WhatsApp group, a message is displayed on the chat window that reads “XXX left”, so this method lets everyone in the group know that a member has left.
WhatsApp groups can be annoying, especially if you have been added to one against your will. That is because people most of the time post random stuff in order to keep the group alive. Sometimes the conversations do not even make sense, yet people participate in them. And sometimes they are hurtful, offensive, homophobic and what not. Yet we do not exit the group because exiting might hurt relatives or friends, who had made the group especially to stay connected. However, leaving groups may not be as hard as they are now. That is because WhatsApp is working on a feature that will let users leave the group silently.
Currently, when you exit a WhatsApp group, a message is displayed on the chat window that reads “XXX left”, so this method lets everyone in the group know that a member has left. Things, however, are expected to get more secretive. That is because Wabetainfo has reported that WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to leave the group discreetly.
Wabetainfo has shared a screenshot of the feature that was spotted on the beta version of the messaging app. The screenshot shows a message pop-up, which states that when you leave a group, only you and the group admins will be notified that you have exited the group. When you leave a group now, WhatsApp adds a system message informing users about your exit.
“This information will only show up to group admins in the future. Group admins should always be notified about what happens in their groups, so it is needed to show them who exited a group.Note that even if the screenshot is taken from WhatsApp Desktop beta, the feature will surely be released on WhatsApp beta for Android and iOS in the future,” WhatsApp wrote.
The feature is currently under development on WhatsApp Desktop beta at the moment and it is planned to be rolled out to users in a future update.
