A Colorado-based internet and TV provider is shutting down its streaming service and moving customers to YouTube TV.
The privately-held Wow! regional broadband provider, headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, launched Wow! tv+, an Android TV-powered streaming service, in 2020 as an alternative to cable TV and Internet-delivered services, such as YouTube TV, Sling TV, DirecTV Stream and others.
But in 2023, Wow! signed a deal with Google to provide YouTube TV to its customers. Since then, Wow! has signed up new residential video customers for YouTube TV service and is also transitioning existing tv+ customers from the proprietary streaming platform to YouTube TV. The transition is expected to be completed on or about June 30, 2026.
This move is an example of continued industry consolidation in the cable and streaming TV landscape, as broadband systems drop TV delivery. "This exit aligns with wider industry patterns, as cable operators grapple with declining video subscribers, high content licensing expenses, equipment upkeep, and support demands, favoring high-speed internet as a more viable long-term focus," according to Cord Cutter News, an outlet covering the streaming landscape.
