Third Dhamma Padayatra to reach Hyderabad today; monks to be welcomed at Ambedkar statue

Join the third Dhamma Padayatra in Hyderabad on February 18 as monks promote peace and compassion at the Ambedkar statue.

The third Dhamma Padayatra, a long-distance peace march aimed at spreading the message of compassion and non-violence taught by Gautama Buddha, will arrive in Hyderabad on Wednesday (February 18).

The padayatra involves hundreds of Buddhist monks from Thailand and India who have undertaken the journey to promote peace, compassion and non-violence. The march will reach Dr. B. R. Ambedkar 125 Feet Statue at 1 p.m., where the participants will be formally received.

Telangana Minister for Tourism and Culture Jupally Krishna Rao, along with bureaucrats and senior officials, is expected to welcome the monks at the Ambedkar statue.

The march began at the Siddhartha Buddha Vihara in Karnataka and covered a distance of more than 400 kilometres on foot. After paying homage at the Ambedkar statue, the monks will proceed to the historic Buddha statue at Lumbini Park on Hussainsagar, where ceremonies have been scheduled.

Following the events at Hussainsagar, the monks will stay at the Mahabodhi Buddha Vihara until February 19. The padayatra will then continue through Uppal, Ibrahimpatnam and Kondamallepalli before culminating at Buddhavanam on March 1, said a release.
