10,000 mangrove saplings were planted in the Sundarbans to celebrate KCR’s birthday and promote ecological restoration efforts.
A total of 10,000 mangrove saplings were planted in the Sundarbans on Tuesday to mark the 72nd birthday of former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR).
The initiative was undertaken by Joginapally Santosh Kumar, former Rajya Sabha Member and the promoter of ‘Green India Challenge’, which has evolved into a national environmental movement. He stated that the mangrove plantation in the ecologically sensitive Sundarbans was a continuation of efforts inspired by KCR’s governance model, which placed ecological restoration at the core of development planning.
The plantation in the Sundarbans, Santosh Kumar noted, assumes particular significance given the region’s vulnerability to rising sea levels and climate-induced disasters. Strengthening mangrove cover, they added, plays a vital role in reinforcing natural coastal barriers.
