Statewide lorry strike begins February 25 as SLOFT demands reduction in fitness certificate fees affecting livelihoods of 6.5 lakh owners.
The State Lorry Owners Federation-Tamil Nadu (SLOFT) has announced a Statewide indefinite lorry strike from February 25. Its executive committee meeting of was held at Namakkal on Tuesday.
In the meeting various issues were discussed. Speaking to reporters, SLOFT president C. Dhanaraj said the Union Ministry of Road Transport issued guidelines on November 11, 2025, regarding the increase of fees for issuing fitness certificates for all vehicles and implemented the hike from December 17, 2025. The SLOFT had demanded that the fee be reduced as the livelihoods of 6.50 lakh lorry owners would be affected.
“Even though the Centre hiked the fee, the State government was able to put the hike on hold but did not take any further steps. Due to this, the operation of one lakh lorries stopped for the past three months. So, from February 25 midnight, 6.50 lakh lorries across the state will participate in an indefinite strike. If the government does not call us immediately for talks, the strike will continue,” Mr. Dhanaraj added.
