Telangana Government decides to form a legal committee to resolve issues with Emaar Properties, following meeting with company representatives.
Telangana Government has decided to constitute a committee of legal experts to resolve the issues pertaining to Dubai-based Emaar Properties.
The legal committee will be in addition to the high power committee headed by the Chief Secretary constituted by the previous Government in 2015. Announcing the decision, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed the officials concerned to thoroughly examine the documents pertaining to Emaar properties including those related to court cases and suggestions given by the Central government.
The Chief Minister gave these directions after a meeting with representatives of Emaar Properties, led by the firm’s founder Mohamed Alabbar, who called on him in Hyderabad on Thursday (February 27, 2025). The firm agreed with the government of the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh in 2001 for setting up convention centre, golf course, villas and other projects.
However, the agreement ran into controversy after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed cases against the company citing irregularities in the deal and the cases are in different stages of investigation and litigation as of now. The company’s delegation called on the Chief Minister urging him to resolve the pending issues and the Mr. Reddy gave the directions accordingly.
Officials explained to the Chief Minister that the then Government had constituted a high power committee headed by the then Chief Secretary and five senior secretaries in October 2015. The External Affairs Ministry as well as the Solicitor General of India made suggestions relating to the pending issues subsequently.
Emaar Properties representatives assured that they would constitute a legal agency after consultation with the United Arab Emirates government to amicably resolve the pending issues. Accepting the offer, the Chief Minister said that the committee of legal experts proposed by the government would hold discussions with the Emaar Group and their legal team to suggest a road map for future course of action.
