Tamil Nadu passes resolution urging central govt to withdraw CUET proposal

The Tamil Nadu assembly has passed a resolution urging the central government to withdraw CUET.

After over 47 central universities of India, and several private universities decided to conduct UG college admissions through CUET scores, the Tamil Nadu assembly has passed a resolution urging the central government to withdraw the proposal for CUET. Much like with the NEET ban bill, the state government led by CM MK Stalin has also been pushing against CUET for a few days.

On Monday, the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly “unanimously” adopted a resolution urging the central government to withdraw the proposal for CUET. The resolution was supported by all the political parties expect for BJP.

The DMK government has been railing against CUET ever since University Grants Commission (UGC) announced that UG college admissions will be conducted through CUET or CUECT.

A few days ago, CM Stalin had written to PM Modi asking for the “undesirable rule” to be withdrawn. The state government found the common entrance exam to be “regressive”.

The MK Stalin government is now on its way to an anti-CUET movement, much like how it had stood against NEET.

The CM had written in the letter that CUET wouldn’t provide equal opportunities to all students as it was NCERT-based. He said that those who studied in the various state boards of India would face more problems and thus a majority of students would be at a disadvantage.

We can now soon expect an anti-CUET bill to be tabled.
