A 55-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her son, daughter-in-law and her father in Surat after she opposed an illicit relationship between the son and elder brother's wife. The crime was solved by the Surat Crime Branch within hours of the body being found.
According to the police investigation, victim Hamida Khatun’s younger son Parvez was in an illicit relationship with Shabana, who is the wife of his elder brother. Frequent disputes over money and tensions within the family due to the relationship had created constant conflict at home.
Troubled by Hamida’s objections to the relationship and the financial disputes, Parvez, Shabana and Shabana’s father Firoz Alam allegedly conspired to eliminate her.
On March 10, Parvez, Shabana and Firoz Alam allegedly strangled Hamida Khatun to death at their house. The accused then hid the body inside the house until March 11. Later, the body was packed in a sack and dumped near a temple.
Police said that after committing the murder, Parvez himself went to the police station and filed a missing complaint about his mother. He told police that his mother had gone to the market to buy clothes and had not returned.
Surat Crime Branch DCP Bhavesh Rozia said that on Wednesday morning around 11 am, a body tied inside a plastic sack was found.. The victim’s hands and legs were tied, and she had been strangled to death.

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.
