Supercalifragilisticfantabulous: Gavaskar speechless after India's Guwahati dominance
India Today
Sunil Gavaskar was left searching for words after India's ruthless win in Guwahati, hailing a champion side as Abhishek Sharma's record knock sealed another dominant display against New Zealand.
Sunil Gavaskar summed up India’s growing authority with pure wonder after their crushing eight-wicket win over New Zealand in Guwahati, calling the performance “supercalifragilisticfantabulously, wonderfully amazing”. As India took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the T20 series, the former captain was left admiring a side that appears close to complete ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

“Look at everything, not just the batting,” Gavaskar said during the post-match show on JioHotstar. “Their bowling, their catching, their outfielding — they were a champion side.” He suggested that any team watching would be left wondering how to compete. “What do we do against this side? How do we stop this side? This is a side to beat. This is a side that will take some beating.”
India’s dominance began early. Jasprit Bumrah marked his return with a fine spell, while Hardik Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi ensured New Zealand never settled. Reduced to 153 for nine, the visitors were left with little margin for error against a batting unit in full flow.
In the chase, India wasted no time. After Sanju Samson fell first ball, Abhishek Sharma attacked relentlessly, punishing anything short or wide. Supported by Ishan Kishan and later by captain Suryakumar Yadav, Sharma ensured the target was never in doubt as India raced home with 10 overs to spare.
For Gavaskar, the most striking aspect was the balance. “Even if they don’t have a good day, they will still entertain everybody,” he said. “It’s amazing.”
