T20 World Cup: Suryakumar Yadav compares India's 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cup wins, highlighting the shift from experienced composure to youthful intensity and how home pressure shaped the title defence.
Suryakumar Yadav has drawn a fine but telling distinction between India's back-to-back T20 World Cup-winning sides, describing the 2024 squad as one driven by experienced enthusiasm and the 2026 unit as a group fuelled by the fiery passion of youth.
Speaking in a podcast interview with PTI, the India skipper reflected on how the two champion sides differed in character and motivation despite achieving the same feat.
The 2024 side, led by Rohit Sharma, was built around the experience of stalwarts like Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, players who had spent years chasing an elusive ICC trophy. Their triumph in Barbados brought that chapter to a close, with all three retiring from the format and making way for a younger generation.
"There was just a (minor difference) between the two teams. Woh experience wala josh tha, idhar ekdum khoon garam tha ladkon ka," Suryakumar said, summing up the contrast between the two squads.
He elaborated further, noting that while the 2024 side had clearly defined roles and a wealth of experience to draw from, the 2026 group was younger and needed to be guided through the unique pressure of playing a World Cup at home.
"In 2024, everyone was perfectly defined for their role. This time, most of the guys are 25 to 27 years old. It was necessary to explain to them how it feels to win a World Cup in India, when 50,000 people, a lakh people, are cheering for you in the stadium."
