Shivamogga Police arrested four people on charges of supplying prohibited items to the Shivamogga Central Prison, located at Sogane near Shivamogga. The accused allegedly threw packets containing banned items, including ganja, a mobile phone, cigarettes, and a lighter.
B. Nikhil, Shivamogga SP, on Monday, told the media that Tunga Nagar Police booked a case after a packet containing banned items was found on the central prison premises on February 1. The case was filed under the NDPS Act and the Karnataka Prisons Act, 2022.
“Four people have been arrested in the case. Khalandar is the kingpin, and the three others are his associates. The police conducted the investigation based on CCTV footage,” the SP said.
Further, Mr. Nikhil stated that those who supply banned items to prison inmates would also be imprisoned. “Tunga Nagara Police and the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force staff posted at the prison have done a commendable job in cracking the case,” he added.
Shivamogga Police had arrested three people recently in a similar case.

Ahead of the initial proceedings of the Global Big Cat Summit set to be held in Bandipur and Nagarahole between February 9 and 13, the Nagarahole Adivasi Jamma Paale Hakku Sthapana Samithi (NAJHSS), a federation of gram sabhas in Nagarahole forests, have alleged that the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) is a facade to further occupy indigenous lands and intensify their exploitation.
