While the Congress and NCP agreed on Pawar’s candidacy, insiders report significant resistance from newer leaders within the Shiv Sena led by Aaditya Thackeray.
Aaditya Thackeray’s group is particularly upset about giving up the Rajya Sabha seat, which they argue should have gone to their party as per earlier understandings.
Sources indicate to India Today that Aaditya was initially supported by Uddhav Thackeray in opposing Pawar’s candidature.
According to insiders from Shivsena, Aditya’s argument was very clear that Sharad Pawar’s party isn’t credible as they were in talks with Ajit Pawar for the last one year for a merger. If we give away this seat to Sharad Pawar, what is the guarantee that they will remain with us till the next elections?

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.
