SFI petitions for six MS University colleges to be converted into government institutions due to funding and infrastructure issues.
The district unit of Students Federation of India (SFI) on Monday submitted a petition at the weekly grievance redressal meeting held at the Collectorate, demanding that six constituent colleges of Manonmaniam Sundaranar (MS) University be converted into government colleges.
The petition was submitted by students, led by district SFI president S. Madasamy, from the constituent college of MS University at Nagampatti in Thoothukudi district.
According to the petition, MS University runs six constituent colleges at Cheranmahadevi, Naduvakkurichi, Nagampatti, Puliyankudi, Panakudi and Thisayanvilai. Thousands of students pursue their higher education in the colleges, which have produced several successful degree holders. “However, due to inadequate financial resources, lack of funding from the university and insufficient infrastructure facilities, students are facing severe difficulties.”
The students urged the government to take immediate steps to reclassify the six constituent colleges of MS University as government colleges.
Mr. Madasamy said the university was not allocated enough funds for the colleges, which had adversely affected the infrastructure facilities at the colleges. The students had been demanding for the past six years that they be converted into government colleges. “Every welfare scheme launched by the government is being implemented only in the second phase.”
The grievance redressal meeting was chaired by Collector K. Elambahavath.
