
Senior orthodontist Krishna Nayak passes away in Mangaluru

Dr. Krishna Nayak started as an orthodontics professor in ABSMIDS and also served as Dean (Academics). He was director of Nayak’s Dental Speciality Clinic & Orthodontic Centre at Attavar in Mangaluru.
Senior orthodontist and principal of A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS) U.S. Krishna Nayak, 63, passed away in a private hospital at Attavar in Mangaluru following a brief illness on December 3.
He is survived by his wife Shaila, son Arjun, daughter Ektha, and younger brother U.S. Deepak Nayak.
Son of well known dentists U. S. Mohandas Nayak and Indira M. Nayak, Dr. Krishna Nayak studied in St. Aloysius High School and College. He did his BDS and post-graduation at the KMC College of Dental Surgery, Manipal.
Dr. Krishna Nayak started as an orthodontics professor in ABSMIDS and also served as Dean (Academics). He was director of Nayak’s Dental Speciality Clinic & Orthodontic Centre at Attavar in Mangaluru.
He served as the national president of the Indian Dental Association in 2001-02. In 2003, he was conferred with State Rajyotsava award. Other awards included ‘Outstanding Professor Award’ by the Indian Orthodontic Society in 2014, ‘The Most Proactive (Sr.) Academician’ in 2015, and ‘The Best Dental Administrator Award’ at the World Dental Conference held in 2019 in Malaysia. In August this year, he was selected as one of the 20 ‘Most Prominent Principals in Higher Education 2024’.
Several people visited his house at Hathill on December 4 morning to pay their tributes.
