Telangana appoints Sandeep Kumar Sultania as Finance Department Principal Secretary, replacing K. Ramakrishna Rao as Chief Secretary.
A 1998 batch IAS officer Sandeep Kumar Sultania is the new Finance Secretary of Telangana. The State Government has issued orders to this effect on Monday (May 12, 2025). Mr. Sultania replaces Finance special chief secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao who took over as the State Chief Secretary on April 30 post retirement of A. Santhi Kumari.
Mr. Ramakrishna Rao has been holding the Finance portfolio for a decade and was given full additional charge of the post even after his elevation as the Chief Secretary. The State government, however, relieved him from the responsibility in less than two weeks.
Mr. Sultania will have to face several challenges after taking charge as the State’s finances are not up to the expected levels. His appointment comes at a time when the government is exploring several options including monetization of properties to bridge the resource gap. He will continue to hold full additional charge as Principal Secretary of Planning Department and Panchyat Raj and Rural Development Department.
