RN Ravi to Bengal, ex-diplomat in Delhi: What changed in major Governor reshuffle
India Today
Following the surprise resignation of CV Ananda Bose as West Bengal Governor, R N Ravi was moved to the state, Taranjit Singh Sandhu was appointed Delhi Lieutenant Governor, and several other gubernatorial changes were announced.
In a major administrative reshuffle, President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday appointed new Governors and Lieutenant Governors across several states and Union Territories, including the national capital. The move followed the resignation of CV Ananda Bose as the Governor of West Bengal, a development that took many by surprise.
Under the reshuffle, RN Ravi, currently the Governor of Tamil Nadu, will replace Bose in West Bengal. Former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, replacing VK Saxena, who has been moved to Ladakh.
Here are the key changes and new appointments:
Bose’s resignation came as a surprise in political circles. He said he had served as the Governor of West Bengal for three-and-a-half years and that it was “enough”.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed shock over the development and alleged that the outgoing Governor may have been pressured by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to “serve certain political interests” ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state, however, dismissed the allegations and attributed Bose’s resignation to health concerns.

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.
