Rishabh Pant being considered for India captaincy in future will not surprise me: Mohammad Azharuddin

IPL 2021: Reacting to the news of Rishabh Pant being appointed as Delhi Capitals (DC) captain for the the upcoming season, former India captain Mohammed Azharduddin has said that the swashbuckling cricketer can one day be considered for India captaincy also in future.

23-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is the latest golden boy of Indian cricket and there is no doubt about it. Not long ago he had a very unproductive IPL 13 season which saw him getting dropped from the white-ball squads. Prior to the IPL 2020, his dip in form saw KL Rahul donning the gloves despite him being in the dressing room. The youngster soon realised the gravity of the situation and worked hard on his fitness, batting and wicket keeping skills to announce the arrival of Rishabh Pant 2.0 version in style. His performances in the Test series against Australia has given a new wing to his career. He is being considered as one true match-winner now. He proved his metal with breathtaking knocks in Sydney and Brisbane, the knocks which helped India seal a 2-1 series against the Kangaroos in their own backyard. Pant's rich vein of form continued during the entire England series as well and now the luck is also on his side.
