A Reddit user's experience challenges common perceptions about the high cost of living in metropolitan cities as they shared their move from Assam to Delhi.
Moving to a metro city often comes with fears of soaring expenses. But for a Reddit user who recently relocated from Assam to Delhi, the experience turned out to be quite the opposite.
In the post, the user explained that they earn around Rs 1.4 lakh per month and had always assumed that living in a major metropolitan city would quickly drain his salary. However, their experience in Delhi NCR turned out to be quite different.
“Shifted from Assam to Delhi few months ago and ngl the lifestyle difference kinda surprised me,” he wrote.
He added that he managed to find a one-bedroom apartment in a proper housing society for around Rs 22,000 to Rs 25,000 a month. The apartment, according to them, comes with a balcony, good sunlight and access to parks nearby, which made it feel more comfortable than he had anticipated.
Another aspect that impressed them was Delhi’s extensive metro network. Having moved from Assam, they said how they were not used to such efficient public transport. The metrommakes it easy to travel across the city without relying heavily on cabs or auto-rickshaws.
He also mentioned that everyday expenses such as groceries, house help and even doctor visits feel manageable in the city. As a result, he said he is currently able to save around Rs 70,000 to Rs 75,000 every month while still living comfortably.

A dive into the world of Zoroastrianism and Vedas shows us how Indians and Iranians have been sharing languages, Gods, sciences and a sacred fire for thousands of years.
