
Punjab reduces electricity rates for domestic, commercial consumers from April 1

Starting April, the electricity rates in domestic households will be reduced by Rs 1.50 per unit while in shops, the tariff will go down by 79 paise per unit.
The Punjab government has announced a reduction in electricity rates starting from April 1. Taking to X, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the state detailed the new rates for domestic households as well as shops and industries.
"After providing 300 units/month of free electricity, (the government) has now also made a historic cut in electricity rates," the tweet read, announcing the new rates decided by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led government.

Starting April, the electricity rates in domestic households will be reduced by Rs 1.50 per unit. In shops, the electricity rates will go down by 79 paise per unit, in industries by 74 paise per unit, and Electric Vehicle (EV) charging will be Rs 5 per unit.
The Punjab government is already offering 300 units of free electricity per month to domestic consumers. Bhagwant Mann had announced the initiative during his political campaign, and it was set into motion after he took office in 2022.
