Puducherry Speaker R. Selvam on Monday (March 17, 2025) warned of taking stern action against officials abstaining from the proceedings of the Assembly.
After the Zero Hour, the Speaker intervened to make a statement about the conduct of certain officials when the House was in session. “It was the duty of officials to be present in the House for the Chief Minister and Ministers to promptly reply to the issues raised by the legislators. The officials have to give inputs on various subjects to the Ministers. But the officials continue to abstain from the House despite several advisories to them,” he said.
Even when the House was not in session, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy was raising the issue of lack of administrative support given by the officials in discharging the government’s responsibilities. “The Chief Minister may show mercy to the officials but the House will take stern action against those officials who are not present. Even the Secretaries will have to be present to assist the Ministers in answering questions in the House,” he said.
