Prime Minister Modi to inaugurate new Pamban railway bridge in Rameswaram, allowing bigger ships to pass through soon.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Rameswaram to inaugurate the new Pamban railway bridge which has almost neared the completion stage,” said Southern Railway General Manager R. N. Singh.
He inspected the new Pamban railway bridge following his visit to Rameswaram on Friday.
Speaking to media persons, he said, when the new bridge opens, bigger ships could pass through.
“As the Rameswaram railway station redevelopment works were underway, the station would be opened by August,” he added.
Anticipating an increase in people visiting the district, plans to operate new trains were under consideration, Mr. Singh noted.
Regarding retaining the old Pamban railway bridge, he said, as the bridge was already in a dilapidated state, there were plans to dismantle and create a replica of it in Ramanathapuram.
