
Credibility of news is paramount, says All India Radio D-G

All India Radio retains its credibility and distinct identity even in the digital era, while steadily expanding its presence on social media, says D-G Rajeev Kumar Jain.
All India Radio continues to retain its distinct identity and credibility in news dissemination even in the rapidly evolving digital era, director general of All India Radio Rajeev Kumar Jain said on Tuesday.
Addressing a training programme organised by the regional news unit of All India Radio Hyderabad, he said while traditional radio news broadcasting remains its core strength, the public broadcaster has also carved a niche for itself on social media.
He was addressing the training programme for part-time correspondents, casual news editors and news readers. M.S. Mahesh, head of the regional news unit and deputy director, was also present.
Mr.Jain observed that although social media demands instant dissemination of news, correspondents must overcome this challenge without compromising on credibility. He stressed that verifying and cross-checking information before broadcast is the responsibility of every correspondent.
Shruti Patil, additional director general of Press Information Bureau, Hyderabad, explained the functioning of the Fact Check Unit launched by the Press Information Bureau and advised government communicators to focus on field-level development reporting. Telangana Media Academy chairman K. Sreenivas Reddy also spoke.
