
Pollachi sexual assault case: Coimbatore court holds all nine accused guilty

Mahila Court in Coimbatore finds all nine accused in Pollachi sexual assault case guilty, awaiting sentencing.
The Mahila Court in Coimbatore on Tuesday (May 13, 2025) held all the nine accused in the Pollachi sexual assault case guilty.
Judge R. Nandhini Devi will pronounce the quantum of sentence for the nine persons, after hearing the prosecution and defence arguments, at 12 noon.
The court found N. Sabarirajan, 32, aka Rishwanth of Jothi Nagar, K. Thirunavukkarasu, 34, of Makkinampatti, M. Sathish, 33, and T. Vasanthakumar, 30, of Suleeswaranpatti, R. Mani aka Manivannan, 32, of Achipatti P. Babu, 33, of Mahalingapuram, T. Haronimus Paul, 32, of Achipatti, K. Arulanantham, 39, of Vadugapalayam and M. Arunkumar, 33, of Panikkampatti, all places in and around Pollachi, guilty of the charges against them.
The had been arraigned for multiple charges, including criminal conspiracy, sexual harassment, rape, gang rape and repeated rape on same women.
The accused were brought to the court from the Salem Central Prison in the morning amidst tight security.
CBI Public Prosecutor Surenda Mohan said prosecution will pray for maximum punishment for the accused, citing that the gravity of the charges against the accused.
Mr. Mohan added that Sections 376D (gang rape) and 376(2)(n) (rape repeatedly on the same woman) of the Indian Penal Code have been charged against all the nine accused. The 376 D attracts rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than 20 years, but which may extend to life which shall mean imprisonment for the remainder of that person’s natural life, and with fine.
