Police denial to register FIR fuels suspicion: Raj Thackeray on Ajit Pawar death

Raj Thackeray questions the lack of an FIR in Ajit Pawar's death, citing growing suspicions and calls for a thorough investigation.
The denial to register an FIR in the case of the death of NCP leader Ajit Pawar raises suspicion, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray said on Friday (February 27, 2026).
He was referring to the tragic demise of NCP leader Ajit Pawar in an air crash, after which Mr Pawar’s nephew and NCP SP MLA Rohit Pawar had unsuccessfully tried to register an FIR in the matter. Rohit Pawar met Raj Thackeray on Friday. He thereafter met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and submitted three applications to him. One of the applications has sought a thorough probe in Ajit Pawar’s death.
“The letter demanding a probe will be sent to DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) by the Chief Minister, so the queries raised by Rohit Pawar can be addressed,” the Chief Minister’s office told The Hindu on Friday (February 27).
While one letter sought a probe into the air crash, the second letter sought jobs for the family members of those who lost their lives in the air crash, along with Ajit Pawar. The third letter has demanded that the government bungalow of Devgiri should be turned into a memorial for Ajit Pawar, and that key projects should be named after him.
While speaking after meeting Rohit Pawar, Raj Thackeray said, “The government needs to answer why the FIR is not registered when a family member has raised suspicions or wants a thorough investigation.”
