A 23-year-old man sentenced to 20 years for sexually harassing a minor girl in Shivamogga, with a ₹1 lakh fine.
Shivamogga Additional District and Sessions Court convicted a 23-year-old person from Shiralakoppa in Shikaripur taluk for sexually harassing a minor girl and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment, besides a penalty of ₹1 lakh.
The accused sexually harassed the minor girl, assuring her that he would marry her. The Shiralakoppa police registered the case under the POCSO Act, besides the SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Deputy SP of Shikaripur, Keshava K.V. conducted the investigation and filed the charge sheet. Sridhar, public prosecutor, represented the prosecution during the hearing. The first additional district and sessions judge passed the judgment on March 10, sentencing the accused to 20 years of imprisonment and slapping a penalty of ₹1 lakh.
Further, the judge ordered the government to pay a compensation of ₹4 lakh to the survivor in the case, said a press release issued by the Shivamogga district police.
