
1.21 crore beneficiaries received welfare assistance in the past five years in Salem, says Minister

Minister R. Rajendran announces 1.21 crore beneficiaries received ₹22,117 crore in welfare assistance and inaugurates new development projects in Salem.
Tourism Minister R. Rajendran on Thursday (March 12, 2026) stated that in the past five years in Salem district, a total of 1.21 crore beneficiaries have been benefited from welfare assistance and development schemes worth ₹22,117 crore.
On Thursday, the Minister inaugurated the construction works for a memorial of 22 martyrs who were killed in a police firing at Salem Central Prison in 1950. The memorial will be constructed on the Salem Central Prison premises at a cost of ₹3 crore. The Minister stated that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laid the foundation stone for the memorial through video conferencing on February 26.
Later, he inaugurated the quality control laboratory on the Public Works Department Inspection Bungalow premises at a cost of ₹1 crore. The laboratory has facilities including a computer, office room, and laboratory report preparing room. The Minister also inaugurated a new fair-price shop constructed at ₹17 lakh on Longley Road in Shevapet Lorry Market.
Later, in a function held at a marriage hall in Neikarapatti, Veerapandi taluk, the Minister distributed land patta worth ₹11.13 crore to 378 beneficiaries who petitioned for patta in special camps conducted under the Ungaludan Stalin Scheme.
Speaking at the function, the Minister said that in a function held in the Salem district on June 12, 2025, Mr. Stalin distributed land patta to 80,000 beneficiaries. On Thursday, land patta was distributed to the people residing at Sivathapuram, Inam Vedukathampatti, Keerapappampadi, Maramangalathupatti, Naickenpatti, and Alagapuram.
He also laid the foundation for various project works at ₹1 crore in Kadayampatti town panchayat, inaugurated weekly shandy worth ₹1.39 crore in Karuppur town panchayat and a part-time ration shop at Bharathipuram near Danishpet.
