Khera seeks legal relief amid passport-related FIR filed by Assam CM's wife
Congress leader Pawan Khera has approached the Telangana High Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with an FIR filed by the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The FIR involves allegations concerning the possession of multiple passports.
The complaint has been registered at the Guwahati Crime Branch Police Station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to false statements during elections, cheating, forgery, defamation, and intentional insult.
Khera has requested the court to grant bail in case of his arrest linked to this case.
Reports indicate that Assam police officials travelled to Hyderabad to locate Khera in connection with the investigation. The Congress leader has alleged that Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of the Assam CM, holds three passports.
Pawan Khera serves as the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Department of the Congress party. He is also a member of the Congress Working Committee.
The FIR cited sections 175, 35, 36, 318, 337, 338, 340, 352, and 356 of the Indian Penal Code, covering offences such as false statements related to elections, cheating, forgery of valuable documents and public records, use of forged documents, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, and defamation.
