Palakkad Division exceeds freight target, achieving a record 7.34 million tonnes in 2025-26, reflecting robust regional growth.
Palakkad Division of Southern Railway has not only met its annual revenue budget of loading target of 7.32 million tonnes of freight in 2025-26, but exceeded the target by loading 7.34 million tonnes, the highest recorded in the last 10 years.
The division serves as a vital rail corridor in three southern States — Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, while a major portion of freight loading takes place in New Mangalore Port. According to officials, the record freight loading figures are not merely a railway statistic; they are a direct reflection of the industrial activity, agricultural output, and infrastructure growth taking place across the region.
Besides achieving an 8% growth in tonnage over the previous financial year, the Division recorded a 4.6% increase in freight earnings too.

On March 31, the final day of the financial year, the Division achieved its highest-ever single-day freight loading — moving 50,000 tonnes of freight across 759 wagons. It was achieved with the coordinated efforts of the entire team, from operations and commercial staff to infrastructure and logistics personnel.
The division recorded a staggering 184.2% growth in cement loading over the previous year — the highest such increase seen by any division on Indian Railways.
