
Collector reviews GVMC works, sets summer action plan

District Collector Abhishikt Kishore reviews GVMC initiatives, emphasising cleanliness, summer water kiosks, and timely road work before Bhogapuram Airport opening.
District Collector M. Abhishikt Kishore on Friday conducted a comprehensive review of civic administration with Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg and other senior officials. The visit marked his first to the GVMC in his capacity as Special Officer after assuming charge as District Collector.
During the meeting, the Collector reviewed the functioning of various departments and examined revenue and expenditure details. He stressed the need to secure a top rank in the national cleanliness surveys. He directed officials to set up summer water kiosks with CSR support to provide drinking water, buttermilk and ORS sachets to commuters across the city. He also instructed that road works be completed ahead of the commencement of operations at Bhogapuram Airport and called for resolution of land-related issues in coordination with the Joint Collector.
Reviewing the public health wing, Mr Kishore enquired about sanitation staff strength, garbage collection and transportation systems, composting methods at the Kapuluppada dumping yard, and the functioning of waste-to-energy and biogas units.
While reviewing engineering works, the Collector assessed budget allocations and the progress of works related to roads, drains, parks, green belts and medians. He also reviewed the status of smart street vending markets, construction of working women’s hostels, proposed road-widening works, maintenance of GVMC stadiums, street lighting, drinking water supply, mechanical services, construction of TIDCO houses, and the operation of Anna canteens. He further enquired about arrangements being made for summer relief measures.
