Responding to JP Nadda's letter, Opposition leaders accused the BJP of creating a diversion from real issues and dividing the society to remain in power.
Congress and other Opposition parties on Monday slammed BJP national president JP Nadda’s letter to the nation and accused the BJP of dividing society, diverting attention from real issues to remain in power.
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said, “The crux of JP Nadda's letter is Ulta Chor Kotwal Ko Dante (Pot calling the kettle black). Every time someone raises the finger at their failures, they say we have won the election. So they have no right to speak against Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Narasimha Rao, Rajiv Gandhi and Manmohan Singh because they also won elections. What is this argument that he [Nadda] is giving that they have won the election so everything is maaf?"
"You are not able to stop the riots? Rather you want to divide society and divert attention from your record on unemployment, inflation, Covid, farmers and to remain in power - it is your history that earlier you were dividing society for the British and now for yourself so that you remain in power," he added.
Speaking to India Today, Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill, “JP Nadda’s letter is a classic case of a broken record playing same music over and over again. Congress is here to raise the voice of people. Nadda should remember that people are tired of hearing the blame being put on Nehru and the Congress party for their current government’s failures."
Shergill said, "Nadda should respond about things that 1) Is it not true that heart of nation - Delhi has become a bleeding heart under BJP regime? 2) Why is there a pattern across the nation of attack on religious processions have increased under BJP regime?"
Leaders from Opposition parties, including Congress President Sonia Gandhi had written an open letter expressing shock at the silence of PM Modi on communal tensions in several states.
