Not aware of Epstein's crimes: Ex-accountant regrets helping sex offender

Richard Kahn, a former accountant of Jeffrey Epstein, told a congressional committee that he was unaware of the crimes committed by the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and expressed regret about assisting him.
A former accountant of Jeffrey Epstein told US lawmakers he was unaware of the late sex offender’s sexual crimes and expressed regret that he had unknowingly helped him. The remarks assume significance as a congressional committee investigates Epstein’s vast financial network.
Richard Kahn testified before the Republican-led House Oversight Committee in a closed-door deposition on Wednesday, saying he had never witnessed or received complaints about Epstein’s abuse or trafficking of women.
“While Epstein was alive, I never observed any sexual abuse or trafficking of women and never received a complaint — either by one of Epstein’s victims or anyone else — of such abuse or trafficking,” Kahn said in a prepared opening statement obtained by US-based NPR News.
Kahn, who began working as Epstein’s accountant in 2005 and remained a close confidant until the sex offender’s death in 2019, told lawmakers he regrets that he may have “unknowingly assisted Epstein in any way.”
Lawmakers from both Republicans and Democrats said the deposition is part of an effort to understand how Epstein amassed hundreds of millions of dollars and maintained relationships with some of the world’s most powerful figures while running a sex-trafficking operation involving underage girls.
According to committee chair James Comer, Kahn told investigators he believed Epstein made his fortune working as a tax adviser and financial planner, news agency The Associated Press reported.

The profiles of at least three of China's leading nuclear, missile and radar experts were scrubbed from the website of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the country's most prestigious academic body. This comes as a series of purges under Premier Xi Jinping's anti-corruption campaign have decimated the upper echelons of China's military and scientific community.

The aircraft had also been used by senior Iranian officials and military figures for both domestic and international travel, and for coordinating with allied countries, the Israeli military said. Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport has resumed flight operations after a temporary suspension of about seven hours caused by a drone strike near a fuel tank facility.

When we look at Iran through the prism of religion and see a Shia Islamic country, we negate its thousands of years of rich pre-Islamic Persian culture. A dive into the world of Zoroastrianism and Vedas shows us how Indians and Iranians have been sharing languages, Gods, sciences and a sacred fire for thousands of years.
