Speaking to reporters shortly after the budget was announced in Parliament, Shivakumar said Karnataka did not appear to have gained significantly.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday expressed disappointment over the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, saying the state had not received any notable benefits from the central government’s allocations.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the budget was announced in Parliament, Shivakumar said Karnataka did not appear to have gained significantly.
"“There is no benefit for our state from the central budget. I was observing it,” Shivakumar said, voicing concern that Karnataka had been overlooked in major provisions, adding that his comments were based on an initial assessment. He noted that he was yet to study the budget in detail.
He also criticised the rural employment programme changes, stating, "They have named a programme after Mahatma Gandhi now (after repealing the MGNREGA act that was named after Gandhi)".
The Deputy Chief Minister demanded the restoration of the MGNREGA act, arguing that the new rural employment scheme and its fund-sharing formula would be difficult to implement effectively in its present form.
Reiterating his dissatisfaction, Shivakumar said, "I don't see any major share for our state from this budget," emphasising that Karnataka had expected stronger fiscal support from the Centre.
