Nishant Kumar, the son of Nitish Kumar, could soon be handed the reins of the Janata Dal (United), party sources told India Today, a day after the Bihar Chief Minister filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha. The development has triggered intense discussions within the party about its future leadership and organisational direction.
Nitish Kumar’s move to the Upper House has effectively opened the question of succession in the JD(U), which has been grappling with internal disagreements over who should lead the party going forward.
Several senior leaders are believed to be in the fray, including acting national president Sanjay Jha, Union minister Lallan Singh, and Bihar ministers Ashok Choudhary and Vijay Choudhary.
