The former member of Facebook’s integrity team turned whistleblower has accused Facebook of hosting hate speech and illegal activity. He had said that the company puts profits before the efforts to curb hate speech. The new set of allegations arrive days after Frances Haugen, another former Facebook employee, accused the company of harming young users through Instagram.
The new whistleblower, who was part of Facebook’s integrity team, had spoken to the Washington Post about her allegations. He had reportedly filed a complaint to the Securities and Exchange Commission. In the complaint, the whistleblower had alleged that Facebook feared the then President Donald Trump and therefore refused to enforce safety rules. The report reveals that Facebook repeatedly undermined efforts to curb hate speech, misinformation out of fear of angering Trump and his political allies. Facebook also feared that messing with the President would also hamper its growth.
