New software to tackle fake sports certificates submitted for govt jobs

Fake sports certificates being submitted for government jobs has long been a menace. Now, there's a new software to weed them out.

Fake sports certificates being submitted by applicants seeking government jobs has long been a problem, but now a software has been created to verify the validity of these documents and increase openness in the hiring process.

An application developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) would check the validity of sports certificates applicants submit when applying for jobs with Maharashtra government agencies.

"The software is in its final stage of testing and will go live soon," Om Prakash Bakoria, Maharashtra sports commissioner, told PTI.

For candidates who have placed first in at least state-level competitions, there is a 5% quota in all Maharashtra government ministries.

However, Sunil Kedar, the former sports minister for Maharashtra, acknowledged before the state assembly in March of this year that numerous persons had fabricated false sports certificates to obtain government jobs.

Currently, it takes a lot of time and effort to check the validity of sports certificates that applicants for government jobs who fall under the 5% quota submit.

A candidate who applies for a government position through the sports quota must submit a proper certificate attesting to their excellence.
