Apex child rights body NCPCR on May 9 took cognisance of IndiGo airlines barring a specially-abled child from boarding a flight at the Ranchi airport, and said appropriate action will be taken.
The airline barred the specially-abled child from boarding the flight on May 7 as he was in “a state of panic”. Aviation regulator DGCA has started a probe and asked the airline to submit a report.
In a tweet, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) chairperson Priyank Kanoongo said, “An incident of misbehaviour with a specially-abled child by staff of IndiGo at Ranchi airport has come out. Cognisance is being taken for appropriate action.”
As the boy was prohibited from boarding the airline’s Ranchi-Hyderabad flight, his parents also decided to not take the flight.
Meanwhile, Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on May 9 that no human being should have to go through this and he himself is investigating the incident.
The Saturday’s incident came to light after other passengers posted about this incident on social media on May 8.
Commenting on one such social media post regarding this incident, Mr. Scindia on May 9 said on Twitter, “There is zero tolerance towards such behaviour. No human being should have to go through this! Investigating the matter by myself, post which appropriate action will be taken.” DGCA chief Arun Kumar had on May 8 told PTI that the regulator has sought a report from IndiGo on this matter.
“We are judges and therefore, cannot act like Mughals of a bygone era ... the writ courts in the guise of doing justice cannot transcend the barriers of law,” the High Court of Karnataka observed while setting aside an order of a single judge, who in 2016 had extended the lease of a public premises allotted to a physically challenged person to 20 years contrary to 12-year period stipulated in the law.
The High Court of Karnataka on Monday declined to interfere, at present, in the investigation against a Bharatiya Janata Party worker, who is among the accused persons facing charges of circulating obscene clips, related to “morphed” images and videos clips related to Prajwal Revanna, former Hassan MP, in public domain through pen drives and other modes.
