Navi Mumbai Police busts international drug racket, seizes heroin worth Rs 362 crore

An international drug racket was busted by Navi Mumbai police officials and heroin weighing 72.518 kg worth Rs 362.59 crores was seized.

The officials of Navi Mumbai police on Thursday busted an international drug racket from a container in Navkar Logistics, Ajivali, Panvel and seized heroin weighing 72.518 kg worth Rs 362.59 crores. The heroin was concealed in 168 packets and the operation was conducted after a tip-off was received from Punjab police.

Police officials seized a major drug consignment from a container situated in the jurisdiction of Panvel Taluka Police Station. Police received specific information that a suspicious container is lying unclaimed at Navkar Logistics, Ajivali which may be carrying contraband concealed to evade the enforcement agencies.

Acting on a tip-off, CP Navi Mumbai Bipin Kumar Singh formed a team of crime branch officials headed by DCP Crime Shri Suresh Mengade and supervised by Additional CP Shri Mahesh Ghurye.

The input was further developed by Navi Mumbai Crime Branch by gathering additional information about the consignment which had landed at Nhavasheva Port from Dubai.

Accordingly, based on the input, a team of the crime branch searched the premises of Navkar Logistics, Container Freight Station (CFS) and located the suspicious container lying at the CFS. A search was carried out in the suspicious container but upon inspection, initially marble tiles were found in it.

However, at the last minute of the inspection, it was observed that there was some deformity in the metal frame of the container, leading to the suspicion that the contraband may have been concealed in the door frame. Therefore, the metal door frame and other frames were cut open using cutting machinery and 168 packets were found concealed in it.
