A private tutor in Navi Mumbai allegedly hit a Class 8 girl 20 times with a wooden tong for failing to memorise multiplication tables.
A private tuition teacher in Navi Mumbai has been accused of beating a Class 8 student for failing to memorise multiplication tables.
The incident took place in Navu Mumabi's Gothivali village, where the teacher, identified as Rupali Thavi, allegedly hit the girl around 20 times on her hand with a wooden roti-flipping tong. According to the complaint, the student suffered swelling and red marks on her hand and experienced severe pain after the assault.
The girl has been attending the tuition class for the past five years. Her family got an X-ray done, which did not show any fracture.
The student’s mother, Poonam Wadke, lodged a complaint at the police station. In her complaint, she said that her daughter attends a tuition class run from the teacher’s home. The teacher had asked all the students to memorise multiplication tables. When the girl failed to do so, the teacher allegedly punished her harshly.
The family alleged that when they confronted the teacher, she claimed that their daughter does not study and that other children were also punished. She reportedly told them to send the child to another tuition class if they had a problem.
Cops have registered a case and started an investigation. Police are conducting the student’s medical examination and questioning other students.

The girl told police that her neighbour, Maulana Islam, used to sexually assault her when she was alone at home and threatened her, which is why she did not disclose the matter to her family. Doctors informed her parents that she was pregnant after she was rushed to the hospital with severe abdominal pain.
