Nagaland civilian killings: Konyak CSO asks citizens to boycott Republic Day celebrations
India Today
Konyak CSO has declared that all citizens would completely abstain from participating in Republic Day celebrations within its jurisdiction.
In protest against the killing of 14 civilians in Nagaland’s Mon district by security forces, the Konyak Civil Society Organization (CSO) has called on citizens to boycott Republic Day celebrations and programmes within its jurisdiction.
The Konyak CSO declared that all citizens (public/students/government servant/politician) would completely abstain from participating in Republic Day celebrations and observation programmes on January 26.
“Any individual, group that defies this directive shall be considered a traitor and action shall be meted out as per the law of the land,” Konyak CSO said in a statement.
The apex body of Konyak Naga tribes also appealed to the people to avoid any form of violence, but to show one’s utmost resentment democratically.
“We appeal before the district administration and the law enforcing authority to honour the sentiments of the Konyaks as well as well as those 14 innocent Konyak youths that were massacred by the Indian Armed forces. Hence, honouring such precautionary advices shall be highly appreciated,” the statement read.

However, on special request from the Nagaland government, the stance of the Konyak CSO to completely boycott all national events on Konyak soil has somewhat softened. During the Konyak Union advisory board meeting on January 22, it was resolved that unfurling of the national flags would be allowed at their respective administrative offices.
