Ramzan celebrations in Tamil Nadu include special prayers, charity, and community gatherings promoting love and brotherhood.
Muslims in large numbers offered special prayers and shared greetings and gave essential commodities to the poor as part of Ramzan celebrations in the district on Monday.
Led by the State administrative committee president, M. Shamsul Luha Rahmani, the Tamil Nadu Thowheedh Jamaath (TNTJ) cadre and the public offered Ramzan special prayers at Idgah grounds behind the Melapalayam police station.
Mr. Luha, in his Ramzan address, highlighted the problems being faced by the Muslims in even offering prayers in North India. He said the Muslims were being threatened that their passports would be canceled if they offered prayers in public places while Delhi and Varanarasi administrations had forcibly closed meat shops citing ‘chaitra navaratri’. A State government had cancelled holiday for Ramzan.
“But we love everyone in this society. We’ve given rice and grocery items worth ₹30 lakh to poor families from all religions in Tirunelveli district as part of our Ramzan celebrations. This love and brotherhood should spread across the country,” Mr. Luha said.
The TNTJ had made arrangements for Ramzan special prayers at 31 places in Tirunelveli district.
The SDPI has made arrangements for offering Ramzan special prayers at Burkitmanagar, Santhaipettai, Kaliyaavoor, Pettai and Maanur. In the special prayers organised at Al-Madina Public School, Melapalayam, SDPI State president Nellai Mubarak participated and K. S. Shahul Hameed Usmani delivered the Ramzan message.
After offering Ramzan special prayers, the SDPI cadres staged demonstration demanding the unconditional release of party’s national president M.K. Faizy, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate under PMLA on March 5. They also raised slogans against The Wakf (Amendment) Bill 2024.

The Shakespeare Millennium Club in collaboration with the Annai Velankanni Church (Society of St. Vincent De Paul), conducted a Free Medical Camp on November 23, 2025 at the church premises from 9 am to 6 pm, with Dr. Samundi Sankari and Dr. Divya Sivaraman of Srushti Hospitals, Dr. Sharada L N of Aramba, the Kumaran Dental Clinic, Lychee and Satya Physiotherapy Centre, according to a press release.
