Multi-Skill Development Centre to come up in Gulbarga University to empower youth

The Skill Development Centre will offer training programmes in advanced manufacturing, electrical and electronic technologies, mechatronics and automation, information technology and digital transformation, renewable energy and sustainability, health and allied fields, hospitality and service sector businesses and soft skills, communication and leadership.

Medical Education and Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Minister Sharan Prakash Patil said that the proposed Multi Skill Development Centre to be established in Gulbarga University will empower the youth, especially young women, to face challenges in the highly competitive digital age.

He was speaking after officials from the Government Tool Room and Training Centre (GTTC) and Gulbarga University signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of the skill development centre at the university in Kalaburagi on December 3.

“The world is rapidly advancing with the discoveries and developments in science and technology, especially information technology. It is transforming the way we live and providing ample opportunities. Our youth need to develop competency by equipping themselves with advanced technological and language skills to make use of these opportunities. I hope the skill development centre will cater to these need,” Mr. Patil said.

According to Mr. Patil, the centre would be established on a plot of 25 acres on the university campus at a cost of ₹120 crore, and it would offer world-class skill development training to graduates.

“The need of the hour is to find innovative ways for entrepreneurship. The skill development centre will create superior quality human resources equipped with the most advanced technologies. The purpose is to create competent human resources that could be absorbed by the highly competitive global platforms. The centre will help the youth to be self-reliant by developing skills and boost their confidence,” he said, adding that two more similar centres would come up in Karnataka – one at Talakal in Koppal and another at Varuna in Mysuru.

Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board Chariman Ajay Singh, Gulbarga University Vice-Chancellor Dayanand Agsar, Legislative Council Member Jagadev Guttedar, GTTC Managing Director Y.K. Dinesh Kumar and others were present.
