More money, stronger policing: Budget 2026 boosts Delhi Police's operational muscle
India Today
The total allocation for Delhi Police has risen to Rs 12,846.15 crore in 2026–27, up from Rs 12,259.16 crore in the previous financial year, an increase of 4.57 per cent.
In a city that sits at the crossroads of governance, diplomacy, protest politics and everyday crime, policing Delhi is unlike policing anywhere else in the country. Against this backdrop, the Union Budget for the 2026-27 fiscal brings measured but meaningful reinforcement for the Delhi Police, with a clear uptick in both revenue and capital allocations.
The total allocation for Delhi Police has risen to Rs 12,846.15 crore in 2026–27, up from Rs 12,259.16 crore in the previous financial year, an increase of 4.57 per cent.
While not dramatic, the rise signals continuity and stability in funding at a time when policing demands in the national capital are growing more complex and resource-intensive.
The bulk of the increase comes under revenue expenditure, which has gone up from Rs 11,315.63 crore in 2025–26 to Rs 11,881.55 crore this year.
This additional funding directly supports the day-to-day functioning of the force; salaries, allowances, logistics, fuel, communications, training, forensic support and routine operations that form the backbone of law enforcement in the city.
For a force with over 82,000 personnel deployed across law and order duties, crime prevention, traffic management, VIP security and counter-terror preparedness, sustained revenue support is critical.
